Steamed Beech (Fagus sylvatica)An European Hardwood which is typically pale cream in colour, usually taking on a pink hue following the steaming process.The veneer of the wood can be slightly darker in colour due to the steaming process which gives the wood a more golden tone. Flatsawn surfaces tend to be plain whilst quartersawn surfaces exhibit a silvery fleck pattern. The grain is straight with a fine to medium uniform texture and moderate natural luster.

Rot resistance: Beech is considered non-durable or perishable and is also susceptible to insect attack.
Workability: Overall, good workability. Machines, glues, finishes and turns well. Also, responds very well to steam-bending. It does, however, have a large amount of movement in service so movement and stability of the wood should be taken into account.
